Lions Club of Bundanoon

District 201N2, New South Wales, Australia

Over Two Decades of Service

Our Lions Club exists because one of its female charter members was unable to find a club in our District that would accept female members.  With the assistance of some enlightened Moss Vale males, the new club made history in District 201 N2 as the first mixed club in the district.

Formed on September 17 1990, the club received its charter on October 18th, and held a celebration dinner on December 8th.

In reviewing our archives 20 years on, it is remarkable for a small club the number of projects that now form part of the everyday fabric of our community.

When you sit under the shade of a tree at the oval, it may be one of more than 100 trees planted by the club in 1991. Children attending Bundanoon Public school have benefited from the shade shelter and seating the club sponsored and/or built in the same year.

Our association with Brigadoon began in 1992, selling programs, and we are still participating as part our catering program. The club built the first shelter shed in the village in 1993. Our involvement with the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day began in 1996. Since then we have raised in excess of $45,000.

That year we also carpeted the Bundanoon pre-school, and two months ago, we replaced that carpet to the value of $4,200. In the first few weeks, the children lay on the new carpet running their hands over it saying “nice”.

In 2000, the club completed a new outdoor area at the former Linkside, dedicated to Bert Bastion. Although no longer there, the area gave pleasure to the residents for many years.

An event in which the club participates is the annual Lions Zone picnic, a day of food, face painting, music and fun for residents from hostels and homes in our district. We are the richer for our participation, and will always be a part of it.

These are but a few of the many activities in which the club participated during the first ten years, many of which we continue.

Reflecting on the following decade, we can look at our village and see the results of our contributions in partial or full funding through our catering and raffles. These include lighting for the Bundanoon entrance sign, the dawn service breakfast on Anzac Day, the memorial to the fallen behind the Soldiers Memorial Hall, Seniors’ lunch at the Bundanoon Club and Christmas dinner for the residents of Rosnel. We assist the Garden Ramble team with the Scarecrow competition, and cater at Brigadoon, Garden Ramble and at Winterfest.

We Serve, and present and past Lions can be proud of the contributions they have made to the community.

However, we all rely in turn on the support of the Bundanoon community, which is essential for us to continue.

To our village community we say, “thank you”
